In the heart of Transylvania, the landscape is very varied, you can explore everything from plains to hills and mountains, while magnificent views unfold in front of your eyes. We have planned a great itinerary for you, so stay close and let's explore Mureş County together!

Before you leave, check out our recommended route.

The tour includes about 460 kilometers which can conveniently be covered in 2 days, but if you are more assertive, you can do it in one day!

It doesn't matter where you start, you can join the route from any direction!

For the first day we have planned about 220 km of road, at the end of which you can relax in Sovata, where you can choose from plenty of accommodation and restaurant options!

The tour starts from Târgu Mureş, going toward Reghin. On the way, we recommend you visit the Máriaffy Castle in Sângeorgiu de Mureș and the Teleki Castle in Gornești or even the Anton Badea Ethnographic Museum in Reghin.

Heading northeast from here, you can explore the fascinating winding road of the Upper Mureş Nature Reserve following the river Mureș, or even the Kendi Kemény Castle in Brâncovenești.

Continue in the direction of Miercurea Nirajului, where you can even take a short break before driving up on the winding road to Sovata on Măgherani hill. Stop on the hilltop and take some photos of the dazzling view, then continue your journey to Sovata, where you can spend a pleasant afternoon walking around the Bear Lake - the world’s largest heliothermal lake.

For the second day, we planned a 240-kilometer route with the final stop  in Târgu Mureş.

Start your day from Sovata in the direction of Sângeorgiu de Pădure. You can stop on your way at Gerendás Restaurant for a delicious coffee with a view! As long as you’re here, why not try a short leisure flight with the ultra-light plane from the aerodrome across the road! Don't miss a visit at Rhédey Castle in Sângeorgiu de Pădure, then turn towards Lake Bezid, where, in addition to the eye-catching landscape, you can admire the Bezidu Nou Memorial Park, the “wooden headboard village”, or even take a boat trip.

From here, continue to the fascinating historic city of Sighisoara, which is still inhabited nowadays, a UNESCO World Heritage site where you can explore the medieval castle on foot, and admire the wonders of 17th century architecture.

If you are already here, you can take a small detour to the fortified church of Saschiz or to Bethlen Castle in Criș.

On the way back to Târgu Mureş, turn west in Bălăușeri, towards Târnăveni, and stop at Villa Vinea winery, where you will indulge in the atmosphere of the wine region of Târnava and choose from the internationally acclaimed wines.

Continue to Târnăveni towards Zau de Câmpie, and admire the fishponds and the gentle plain landscapes of the area. If you arrive here in May, enjoy the spectacle offered by the Steppe Peony Reserve in Zau, which bloom at this time of year.

Return to Târgu Mureș and end your two-wheeled adventure at Cornești Plateau, which is the best place to admire the sunset over the city.
